Depression is a natural reaction to having bad experiences in life. We become tired, irritable and discouraged. Use less energy.
If you don't do anything about your depression, it typically disappears by itself within half a year, or maybe a year. Life changes. The great sadness of getting divorced or experiencing death, that sadness diminishes and suddenly the sun starts to shine again.
Life in Denmark is more depressing than life in the poorer countries of the world. 10% of us are depressed, says Psykiatrifonden. Worldwide, WHO says, about 5% of us are depressed.
When life hits us a little too hard and mercilessly, we can become sad and depressed. Death, divorce, disability, unemployment, unrequited love. There are lots of things in life that we can be sad about.
Most grief goes away on its own. After some time.
But then again, sometimes the pain doesn't go away. Instead of rediscovering the joy of life, we fall into a black hole and become depressed. We come to a standstill. Lose all courage. The clear mind is shadowed. Sex life loses its colorful enjoyment. We get tired. The energy accumulates in our body because we do not use it. We are inactive and powerless.
The pharmaceutical industry says depression is a disease. That's not true. Scientists at Aarhus University have proven the truth about depression. The truth is that depression is a stress reaction. One becomes depressed because of living a bad life.
The medical industry has many suggestions for you if you are depressed. Most popular are SSRIs. It is a medication that primarily works by virtue of the the placebo effect. The theory in SSRI is that it plugs the hole where the happiness hormone serotonin is reabsorbed in the brain, separated and recycled into new serotonin. By reducing the opening of the hole, the serotonin level in the brain will increase because new serotonin is constantly being created.
The theory has not been proven. And if you know someone on SSRIs, you can ask them about the side effects. They can be extreme

How to win the war
Teach your people to love and they will defend life. Without the understanding of love, they will sneak out of the house at night when the clouds hang low and the moon is quite pale.
